  1. Describe the normal anatomy of the left heart

  4. List and describe different methods of assessing left ventricle systolic function
Right ventricle assessment
  1. Describe the normal anatomy of the right heart
  2. Outline different methods of assessing the size of the right ventricle and atrium
  3. Identify the components of the pulmonary and tricuspid valve apparatus

Pericardial effusion

Regional wall motion abnormalities

  2. Understand the importance of assessing RWMAs as an essential component of the comprehensive evaluation of left ventricular systolic function
  3. Describe the echocardiographic views to assess RWMAs
  4. Understand how to identify RWMAs using a step-by-step approach
  5. Understand causes of non-ischemic wall motion abnormalities
  6. Describe the RMWA patterns caused by occlusion of the three major coronary arteries (LAD, CX, RCA)
Inferior vena cava
  1. Describe how to assess IVC diameter using echocardiography
  2. Understand the anatomical landmarks and correct techniques for measuring the inferior vena cava (IVC) diameter via echocardiography.
  3. Describe how to assess IVC collapsibility/distensibility
  4. Learn the methods to evaluate the collapsibility/distensibility of the IVC and interpret these measurements in clinical practice.
  5. Discuss the applications and limitations of IVC assessment in the context of fluid/volume status
  6. Explore the clinical scenarios where IVC assessment is useful for evaluating a patient's fluid status and understand the limitations and potential pitfalls of this method.
