  1. Understand current epidemiology of the ageing surgical population
  2. Describe the physiological, physical and clinical, features associated with normal ageing
  3. Perform an adequate screening of physiologic and cognitive reserves in older patients scheduled for surgery
  4. Evaluate impact of frailty on perioperative outcomes guided by a simple assessment tool
  5. Have basic knowledge of long term chronic disease and medication impact on the perioperative management of the elderly patient
  6. Evaluate the risks and benefits of a standard surgical procedure
  7. Suggest proactive perioperative management strategies
  8. Execute decisions on surgery and postoperative care according to ethical principles
